It’s ice cream weather and I have a destination to suggest that’s offering something really different in premium frozen delights!
I recently met an energetic Indian entrepreneur, Smita, who also serves on The Los Angeles Mumbai Sister Cities Affiliation.
Since 2001 she has produced a distinctive collection of exotic ice creams for sale to the foodservice industry.
Last July she moved production to her newly created café, Saffron Spot on Pioneer Blvd., in the heart of Little India in Artesia.
Her superb creations have the richness of premium ice cream but they are made with a bit less fat and are denser than you would expect.
The house specialty is Saffron Silk. It’s a fluorescent orange in color because of the natural rose flavoring which is part of the recipe. The variety is also sprinkled with pistachio.
Don’t miss the richness of the mango. It’s made from the pulp of a distinctive mango which only grows on the West Coast of India.
For a really exotic taste try the fresh sugarcane juice, a popular Indian street beverage.
All of the ice creams can travel. Smita offers cups, quarts, and gallons.
